Emergency Department Registered Nurses
Day/Eve, Eve/Night, Night, and Rotating (Day/Eve/Night) shifts available
24hr (2x12), 32hr (4x8), and 36hr (3x12) shifts available
Location: Dedham, MA


Our client is a 58-bed, award-winning community hospital that is a member of a larger healthcare system. There is a close affiliation with a Boston Teaching hospital, so in cases where patients need to be transferred from the community hospital to the affiliated Boston Teaching Hospital for more advanced care, there are systems in place to make that transition happen quickly.


Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates competency in overall rapid patient assessment skills.
  • Meets the need of the patient in a timely fashion, anticipates patient needs and initiates interventions based on care standards.
  • Interprets the data and identifies the patient's requirements for care relative to his or her age specific needs.
  • Prioritizes appropriate level of care required by patient.
  • Uses organizational skills to care for multiple complex patients at one time.
  • Reprioritizes patient's level of care based on continuous evaluation.
  • Performs a rapid nursing assessment of the chief complaint and assigns an acuity level within three to five minutes.
  • Obtains vital signs, past medical history, medications and allergies on all patients.
  • Orders appropriate x-rays on patients waiting to be seen utilizing the guidelines developed for extremity and chest films.
  • Documents on the triage sheet all interventions while in waiting room.
  • Effectively delegates appropriate patient care activities to co-workers with appropriate knowledge and skill level.
  • As required, performs patient teaching and provides care to patients in accordance with plan of care and practice standards.
  • Provides patients with a complete explanation of procedures or treatments to be performed in order to reduce patient anxiety and promote cooperation and compliance.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of a School of Nursing.
  • Current AHA BLS Certification or equivalent and ACLS certification required.
  • 1+ years Emergency Nursing experience preferred.
  • PALS certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.

Other Information:

  • Emergency Department has a total of 19 bays and 18,000 visits per year. Average patients seen is between 50-55 per day.
  • Medical Staff and ED Staff relationship are great.
  • All physicians are Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians.
  • 750 Total Staff, 200 RNs, 720 Active Medical and Allied Health Practitioners.
