Lead Vascular Technologist

  • Acts as Lead Vascular Technologist for the Non-Invasive Vascular Program.
  • Responsible for acquiring and maintaining Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) accreditation of the program.
  • Under general management, supervises the daily operations of the Vascular Ultrasound Program.
  • Monitors the continuity of operational systems, procedures and service standards and provides management assistance as needed.
  • Provides training, technical guidance, support and workflow direction to technologists and support staff.
  • Performs a variety of diagnostic and cardiovascular examinations and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Provides exemplary patient service and is a role model for staff.
  • Performs and interprets diagnostic vascular ultrasound.

Qualifications:

  • Certification/Registration as a Vascular Technologist (RVT, RVS or RT(VS)). Technical certification training required. Must provide documentation of CEUs required for licensure and ICAVL accreditation requirements.
    Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of vascular medicine practices and procedures, typically acquired by a minimum of three years of broad based, multi-procedures experience as an RVT. Three years of vascular scanning experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership potential.

Vascular Technologist

  • Works independently using extensive knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology to perform thorough and accurate noninvasive vascular testing procedures (e.g., carotid duplex, arterial duplex, venous duplex, abdominal duplex, and noninvasive physiological arterial testing) on patients as ordered, and under the direction of the medical director of the Vascular Lab.
  • Independently operates sonographic equipment, follows established laboratory protocols, acquires high quality images and accurate information, and evaluates sonograms.
  • Generates preliminary reports of test results. Analyzes results and appropriately documents all findings, measurements, and dates necessary to complete exam.
  • Greets and escorts patients into exam room, confirms appropriate clinical data, and obtains patient history.
  • Provides for the emotional, physical well-being and safety of the patient while maintaining strict standards of patient confidentiality.
  • Documents procedures as needed. Assists with the distribution of quality assurance reports. Maintains workflows by ensuring that reports are read and reviewed by the reading Cardiologist within the required timeframe.
  • Identifies equipment malfunctions and reports problems to the department supervisor in a timely manner.
  • May confirm and schedule patient appointments and add or cancel tests as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in health care related field (or equivalent education, training or experience) required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • Certification/registration as a Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) or Registered Vascular Technician (RVT) by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) required. CEU documentation for certification must be provided.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • 1+ year of experience from a vascular testing training program or certification course, such as an internship or practicum.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and take initiative.
